Dancing with Snakes
“Tai chi does not mean oriental wisdom or something exotic. It is the wisdom of your own senses, your own mind and body together as one process.” Chungliang Al Huang
*A side note: Legend says Rattlesnake Mt, Reno NV was burned off due to an infestation of Rattlesnakes a couple of decades ago, hence the name of this post. Although I didn’t see any this day, I know they are out there.
I don’t particularly like to dance. I don’t make it a point to go out dancing. I don’t dance around the house when I clean – maybe that’s just in the movies - but my kids and I, years ago, took Karate and I guess some of it stuck. And now, about 6 weeks ago I began what I’m calling my fitness journey. It all started when I tried to do a pushup the first part of July after my 69th birthday and I couldn’t do one. Not one! So I started skipping rope, lifting dumb bells and really started looking at my diet.
I’ve always liked to go out in nature and either walk or sometimes I find a nice spot and move my body. Not anything specific, not anything that requires practice. It’s about getting in touch with the sky, the air and praying I don’t see a snake and just move.
In the video below, that’s what I did a few weeks ago after work. The wind was blowing wildly, and I was alone which is unusual as this is a popular trail in the Reno area, called Rattlesnake Mountain. Part of my artistic chops is video editing which is fun for me. I added a little music, some effects and there you have it – like being on another world.

Great video! I love the visual, and the music! Your editing made it super fun. And I’m very intrigued, I’ve always wanted to learn more about tai chi.
This is awesome, Rhaine! Love the video with the movement, music and effects. You are too powerful for any Rattlesnakes to bother you.
