I see the sky as a metaphor for the unconscious mind. The sky is ever-changing with organically infused, captured impressions of our being here on this earth; clouds and weather, jet streams, stars and planets, sun and moon, light and dark. And it holds a storehouse of bits of stuff we can’t even see, but it’s there.
Hello there. Let’s grab a cup of coffee or tea and have a chat, shall we? I’d like to thank you for being a reader of Living in the Edges, and hope you’ll stay around to see what I’ll be doing next. After much soul-searching over the last few years, I finally feel like I have found a way of making meaning in my life, which you can read in the piece titled Reshaping the Shape of Suffering (if you missed it), and I am embarking on my fourth career. I am on the fence, though, of whether I’ll be changing my Substack publication name to something closer to my business name, or whether I’ll tuck the hypnosis posts inside of this pub and simply tag them as hypnosis. When in doubt, sit on the fence a little longer.
Big life changes are on the horizon as I plan to retire from my day job, end-of-year, and am moving into the Alternative-Wellness field of hypnosis and change work.
The development of concepts, beliefs and practices related to hypnosis and hypnotherapy have been documented since prehistoric to modern times.
Although often viewed as one continuous history, the term hypnosis was coined in the 1880s in France, some twenty years after the death of James Braid, who had adopted the term hypnotism in 1841. 1
There have been many iterations of the art of hypnosis to bring it to its present discipline. The power and efficacy of hypnosis is backed by research that shows it’s safe and creates lasting change in stopping unwanted habits, managing anxiety, weight loss, smoking cessation and so much more. Exciting shit!
What this means for you as a reader
I plan to do more writing about hypnosis and do some group hypnosis sessions for those who are interested - here on Substack. Let me know, in the comments, your thoughts around this, any questions and or suggestions you might have. And within the next few weeks, once I’ve jumped down from the fence, I may be changing the url and name of this publication. With that being said, I will still be writing pieces here and there about my life in general, and I plan to keep the voice of my pub the same – bringing you slightly odd, sometimes weird, and always genuine words from my lived experience.
My hope for this piece is that it might serve as a doorway into the Big Sky (the unconscious) and get you curious. It’s a place to drop inside, a little deeper, a wide-open space to explore, work, and play in.
I’ll leave the light on.
