This is perfect, Rhaine, and just the best advice! I had no idea you were in a rock band! How cool is that? I am so lucky I know you. I am so proud of all you have accomplished and you might just be the coolest person I know.
Oh my gosh, this could be the anthem for the women of the Pink Zones! I absolutely loved reading this. It gives me such a rich picture of who Rhaine is. I especially enjoyed how you reflected on this younger version: “As a kid I was spunky—maybe even a bit feral. I was always out front, the one to come up with the crazy ideas. The one who blazed a trail.” It seems like such a through line, I do see you still "out front" with your creativity and courage. I hear from so many flourishing women in my fieldwork that they find themselves becoming more of who they were in childhood. When you ask, “Where did she go?” and then return with this story, it is not just "a beacon —a light that shows me where to look"—but it blazes a path for those who have the privilege to “watch you.”
I so want to watch you, Rhaine! Please keep pulling this thread. I know there is so much more the world needs to see!
Heidi, I am honored by your words and and from the perspective of your work and The Pink Zones, it is very special. The societal messages about aging are deep and strong and perhaps it is at this stage of life that we filter out those messages, really begin to dig and find out who we really are, take a more active role in who we are becoming, and perhaps circle back to that younger version and bring her into the fold. Thank you for your thoughtful reply!
I think you are so right on about this, Rhaine! Thank you for adding your words and insight to the Pink Zones' mission. We are all so lit up by lives and stories like yours. This is one of the big antidotes for me to the current state of affairs of the world. That you have brought your younger version into the fold and the whole of you out/and forward now, is right on time! Hoorah! (as our friend @suddenlyjamie says! :)
I am watching you be beautiful and loving all that I read and see. Thank you For this vulnerable post. I resonate with the trailer home with 7. We are from the same generation of slim pickings, narrow choices, often meaning one or the other.
I’m glad you got to grow up in a farm and have a marriage 26 years. That is really something. I feel your passion bursting through this post.
Oh, thank you, Prajna. Yeah, trailer life. Kind of amazing that we did that but then again, little kids dont take up much space 😁 Hugs to you too! xx 🌻🦋
Yes, the right context. What I found in writing the piece is that (I'll speak for myself) I have been socially conditioned to tread lightly around these words because they might be too bold, to self-serving, too selfish. But after watching Havfy's video, it shifted my perspective. I was like "yeah, this is something else entirely". I love what you say, by saying these two words and exploring how we say them, with conviction, doors will open - doors you didn't even know were there. I can totally see and feel this. xx
And you're doing it! All the things. I love how you've invented different lives for yourself, it's inspiring to see your devotion to going after the things that are meaningful to you. I feel like I'm doing "watch me," too, Rhaine, since I embraced my writer self less than two years ago. Creative life is so crucial. I'm thrilled to be witnessing this next leg of your adventure! xo
Thanks Nan! Yes, you are! You are doing "watch me". It is so empowering to think of these things we do as that. I love it and love watching you become the writer you've become! xx 😍
I’ve always felt like that phrase “Watch me” was defiant for defiance sake, but not when I read it on your page. In your story, I hear not just the defiance but the courage, the resilience, and the self love. I want to sit with that, and what it may mean for me.
Thank you Jess. Me too, until I saw the performance piece by Havfy whom I mention at the end. Then it all changed for me - my perception of those two words. I had a different title earlier in the week and had been teetering back and forth. The other title was safer, less controversial, "unlocking our potential", or something to that effect. I'm glad I took a chance. xx 😍
Rhaine, I absolutely love this post! I so appreciate learning more about you - your childhood, marriage, the rocker you were and maybe still are! You are at such an exciting point of change in your life. I am watching you - and I cannot wait to see what your beautiful creative soul manifests next. I know it will be spectacularly perfect!😍
Oh, thank you Cathy! Sometimes it feels like there is so much that I don't even know where to begin and this post and the inspiration behind it was a perfect way to do that. xx😍

Thank you much, Lyns. For the kind words, for your support, for your friendship. xx 💜
This is a fantastic piece of writing, Rhaine. I had no idea about your tough childhood or some of the remarkable things you have done. Bravissima! Xx

I am so excited for you, Rhaine, and for those of us following along with your journey.
"Watch me" <--- such powerful words in the right context.
I loved the video you linked to - the music of the joyful challenge ... the delighted defiance.
I feel like I haven't said "watch me" enough in my life, though there have been moments. ;)
I'm finally feeling ready to say it more often and with more conviction.
I have a feeling it's going to open doors I didn't even know where there.
xo

I’m watching, Rhaine! And not in a creepy way but supportive way. It’s wonderful to reinvent over and over.
Thanks Shelley! Yes it is, reinventing - a way of allowing grow and the new to unfold. xx 🥰

I haven’t had a chance to watch the piece yet, but you definitely shifted my perspective with your own words so I’m glad you went there too!
